Late summer/early fall is country fair time in Connecticut. Across the state, you’ll find authentic country fairs that have been an annual event here for generations. From midways to music, livestock competitions to deep-fried everything, there’s no better way to spend a day, night or weekend than at the fair! Here’s a short list of just a few of the fairs happening in August and September.

The best parts of fall are simply unavailable in the city; no hills rolling with color, no apple orchards or pumpkin patches, and certainly no historic cider mills. On back roads, canal paths, wooded trails and coastal excursions, there is biking for everyone in Connecticut – and spring is a great time of year to pop your bikes onto the top of your car and head out for the wide open spaces. Of course, there are many expert opinions about where to find the best bike rides in the state, so we have pulled suggestions from a number of good sources, along with links, so you can make your own determination. Wherever you head, one thing is for certain: There are very few ways better than biking for getting a close look at and feel for the wonders of Connecticut.

Summer in Connecticut erupts with color, from carefully tended gardens to wild grown fields and forest trails. In June, the roses make their entrance. In July, the rhododendrons and lavender take center stage. And in August the sunflowers provide the grand finale. Here are a few of the biggest and best viewing opportunities, as well as some suggestions for other places in Connecticut also beginning to bloom. Remember, Connecticut’s Historic Gardens Day is June 23, so be sure to check for locations celebrating throughout the state.
