The best parts of fall are simply unavailable in the city; no hills rolling with color, no apple orchards or pumpkin patches, and certainly no historic cider mills. Luckily, Connecticut has all of these and more, and it’s just a brief drive away. This short list is packed with everything from pumpkin picking to hot cider and corn mazes.

Corn mazes are a fall tradition in Connecticut. You’ll be impressed by the sheer number of mazes in the state and the mind-boggling creativity that goes into building them. Some are daytime mazes with clues and hints, and some let you come back in the dark with a flashlight if you’ve got the nerve. So if no one’s told you to go get lost lately, maybe it’s time to do it yourself, and bring along family and friends. Can’t get enough? Most are open on weekends. Check websites for details.

Take the whole family so everyone can join in the experience of selecting and gathering your own garden- and orchard-fresh goods. Some farms also offer farm markets, wine tastings, farm dinners and cooking classes, too! Below are some of our favorites, but be sure to take a look at this complete list of Connecticut’s “Pick Your Own” farms offered by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
