Revolutionary Connecticut
There are many ways to explore the Revolutionary War in Connecticut, which was nicknamed The Provision State by Gen. George Washington for its ability to supply the war effort with food, munitions and manufactured goods. Here are some highlights:

Classic Connecticut Town Greens
Visiting town greens is a good way to see small-town Connecticut – the grassy rectangles were where most of the towns got started and where the colonists built their first meetinghouses. Visiting these greens is also a good way to construct a one-day tour through various parts of the state.

Remembering the Revolution
It was 240 years ago this year, in 1776, that the colonies declared their independence from British rule. Feelings ran high in Connecticut, which would later become known to Gen. Washington and other leaders as the Revolution’s “Provision State.” You can recall those remarkable days of long ago at any or all of the Connecticut revolutionary sites.
